Day 3

We left Surprise at about 7:30 a.m. for Albuquerque, NM.  Ran into a traffic jam on Hwy 17, a ver;y BBQed car, that added about ½ hour to our travel time.  Today will be a long day after only a couple of 3 hour or so trips the last 2 days, oh well.  Tonight we are at the High Desert RV Park in Albuquerque.  Nice place and nice people.  We have fought a significant wind all the way from Surprise to here.  It was time to stop for the night!!  Thinking the Petrified Forest may be a stop on the way home if we come back on the 40.

Day 2

We decided to walk into town (Chloride) before heading toward Surprise, AZ.  The folks at the campground recommended Yesterday’s for breakfast.  Town was about 2 blocks from the campground and a very easy walk.  We toured the Market, bought a couple of things (see the bracelet), breakfast at Yesterday’s, the owner of the restaurant makes and sell the sauce, and walked up to view the Jail.  The 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month they still hold a gun fight in town, but of course we were there on a Tuesday, so no gun fight for us.  If you read about Chloride you might decide to pay it a visit with your Off-road vehicle and go up to the mines.  We are thinking it will be a destination with the Jeep sometime in the future.  Note the price of gas on the gas pump!!  Maybe on our way to Havasu next year.

After breakfast we headed for Surprise, AZ for a short visit with Denise and Jimmy. The Saquaro Cactus were in bloom.  Beautiful.  We stayed at the Sunflower Resort in Surprise.  Very nice place.  The temp when we arrived was about 104.  Denise came and got us when she got off work and we went to her house to visit our Grand Dogs and Cats.  They were so excited to see us!  Jimmy was suffering from the stomach flu so could not join us for dinner at Pappadeaux.  Denise, Steve and I had a great meal and we had a great visit with our daughter.

Day 1 of the Hot Rod Power Tour Adventure

We got the indoor plants all set up for automatic watering and it looks like all is well at home.

We left home about 12 noon headed to Chloride, AZ for the night.  Why Chloride, you say?  We were watching an old Western on TV a week or so ago and it was taking place in Chloride.  The Good Guys vs the Bad Guys, and gun fights in the middle of town.  We knew we had heard of Chloride, but Renie had to Google it to find out where it was.  Well, it just happens to be between Boulder City/Hoover Dam and Kingman.  We said, what the heck, we have never been there, just by it a ton of times.  It has a very nice Campground with hookups and lots of very nice people that full time it there.  We arrived about 4 that afternoon, meet our neighbors and spent the evening visiting. The elevation of Chloride is abut 4000 ft., so it cooled off nicely and we had a great evening.  The bulls walk through the campsite most every night.  Tonight it looked like it was going to be mating season, but there was no action other than a bunch of noise and dust being kicked up.  Would recommend Chloride to anyone traveling the 93 and looking for a side trip adventure.
