Day 4
I must say between Albuquerque and our last stop in New Mexico was rather boring. The fields were brown and pretty darn desolate. But, we stopped at Russell's Travel Center again and had a great lunch and of course enjoyed the Car Museum. Steve and Art, the curator, bonded over Art's Military Career, Airplanes, Carroll Shelby stories, and of course classic cars and big engines. We visited this when we did the Cobra trip and enjoyed it as much the second time. We think Steve and Art bonded the first time also, with all the same lies.
Texas was, well Texas. We decided not to stop at Cadillac Ranch. Renie didn't want to get her little feet dirty walking out into the field. So again we did not get up close and personal to the graffittied cadillacs. David and Gil got that experience on the Cobra trip. There we a lot of people out looking at them though. We drove by the 265 foot Cross, the leaning water tower and there was a very interesting structure at one of the rest stops. The wind was blowing us off the road so we stopped for the night at the Longhorn RV Park and had a great night. If you are ever in the Panhandle looking for a RV Park, remember the Longhorn. $20 a night with full hookups. What a little treasure we found!!
