Day 15

Another fun day of driving the back roads from Birmingham to the Atlanta Speedway.  We left a little later this morning and ran with a whole bunch of other Hot Rod Power Tour participants.  This made the gas and potty stops interesting!!

One of the highlights of today's drive was stopping at the Talladega Raceway.  They had a great museum and an awesome tribute to Dale Earnhardt.  We spent about an hour there along with a bunch of other enthusiasts.  Unfortunately, we could not get on the track, even to walk around and take pictures, but still a great experience.

I noticed when we got into Birmingham and Georgia that the Magnolia trees are in bloom.  The trees are beautiful.  Also had to take a picture of one of the big houses along the way.  Who the heck mows those lawns?  The trees along the roadway are in full leaf and full of beautiful large leaf ivy.  What a difference from the high desert scenery that we live in.

Again today, as we traveled the back roads and through the small communities, the towns people greeted us with waves and ohs and ahs.  What fun it is when the locals get involved.

We ran into a traffic jam as we were about 30 miles from the Atlanta Speedway.  One left turn intersection took us about 1-1/2 hours to get through.  The Chevelle started missing after sitting and idling for ever so Steve is not sure if he fouled a plug or maybe picked up some bad gas.  Our hotel is only a stones throw from Summit, so after dinner we ran in and picked up some new spark plugs.  The plan is to drive the car in the morning and see if as the gas gets used up if the miss gets better.  If not new plugs will be installed tomorrow evening.  There is always something!!

Today was Seth and his daughter Sophia's last day of the Power Tour.  We had dinner together and said our goodbyes.  Tomorrow morning they will be on their way back to their home in Southern Georgia.  Sophia is 11 years old and a real Georgia Peach.  Fun, funny, smart and cute as anything.  Seth should be proud of all of the work he put into getting his 1953 Chevy ready for the tour.  The car ran great and they had a good time.
