June 18

Day 21

Today was following the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky.  We decided that we only had the time to visit one of the Distilleries and we were headed to Makers Mark in Loretto.  Steve had seen some Bourbon in a liquor store near Knoxville that he had never heard of and the sales person told him it was very good and had won a big award for Best Bourbon.  He was on a mission for another brand of bourbon so did not buy it.

Today as we were headed to Makers Mark he saw a sign for 1792 Distillery.  Well, that is the bourbon he did not buy, so we decided to visit this distillery instead.  The tour was very well done and it was different from the tours we have taken at Jack Daniels and Dickel.  Along the tour there was a tasting of what is called White Dog, 135 proof.  Steve tasted, but I declined. (Steve here: The taste was pure corn liquor, sweet on the pallet, but very strong of course.  We were instructed to let it sit in the mouth for a short period before swallowing.  Man, that was good. If that is what real home brew white lightening was/is, I was impressed)    There was tasting at the end of the tour and Steve found that he enjoyed the Very Old Barton as well as the 1792.  I liked the Chocolate  Bourbon Ball Cream Liqueur and the Bourbon Balls that are made at a local candy store.  So of course we bought some of each.

We contined on our way to Mt. Vernon, IL, for the night.
